PWC’s Workforce Development Program, conducted in collaboration with Marin Clean Energy (MCE), is designed to provide practical knowledge, skills, and inspiration for youth exploring workforce pathways in renewable energy and green careers. Through experiential learning, team-based activities, and therapeutic support, PWC clients gained exposure to career opportunities in clean energy while building confidence, curiosity, and community.

Introduction to Renewable Energy

The program began with an engaging presentation and Jeopardy-style game led by our partners at MCE. Youth were introduced to the fundamentals of renewable energy, how it is generated, why it matters, and its impact on healthier communities.

The interactive session encouraged critical thinking and teamwork while sparking curiosity about the role young people can play in shaping a sustainable future. PWC clients asked insightful questions and built a foundation of knowledge that would carry through the rest of the week.

Visit to MCE Solar One

On the second day, youth traveled to MCE Solar One, a solar farm located in Richmond, CA. Guided by MCE staff, participants learned how solar energy is generated, stored, and distributed across communities.

Walking among the panels, clients observed firsthand the scale of renewable energy production and gained perspective on the importance of sustainable infrastructure. The visit also highlighted potential workforce opportunities in solar energy, from engineering and installation to project management and environmental monitoring.

STEM in Action & Wellness

To bring their learning to life, participants engaged in hands-on STEM activities by building solar-powered cars and airplanes. Working in teams, they combined creativity and technical skills to design and test their models, developing problem-solving abilities, mechanical understanding, and innovation. This activity emphasized collaboration and resilience, showing youth how clean energy concepts can be transformed into practical, real-world applications.

The program concluded with a fun and therapeutic swimming day, offering youth the opportunity to reflect, connect, and celebrate their achievements together. By integrating wellness into the week, PWC ensures that workforce development is not only about knowledge and career exposure, but also about fostering confidence, trust, and mental well-being.
